How to Prepare for Pet Loss
Although the decision to euthanize is a very difficult one, it is a kind and compassionate decision to prevent suffering when” it’s time”. We can help you with those difficult decisions.
Research shows that being prepared reduces the intensity of grief, and allows you to make difficult decisions when you can think more clearly. Ask yourself what things your cat loves to do, and decide in advance that if he or she can no longer do one or more of these, and medical care cannot resolve it, it is time to make the difficult decision of euthanasia. Keep a written log of these to help you remember later what you considered quality of life for your cat. For some cats, it is eating, for some going outdoors, and for some the dignity or not soiling themselves. If you decide to change your mind, that’s OK, but have the thought processes working prior to when it’s needed.
